Due to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager Media position has become available. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for the development, delivery and day to day execution of AGL’s media engagement strategy. You will be experienced in defining media strategy, issues management, working across multi-disciplinary teams and in strong collaboration with other AGL functions including Legal and Finance.
In addition, you will manage corporate media issues and will be accountable for delivering key media relations initiatives including maintaining AGL’s top issues tracking and positioning process and supporting other functions in developing materials for corporate reporting.
What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Head of Media, you will:

  • Deliver and execute the AGL Media strategy, aligned to corporate strategy and Corporate Affairs plan
  • Act as media business partner for Legal and Reg, P&C and Technology
  • Support the management of priority issues for AGL through the media
  • Build effective relationships across media outlets to ensure AGL is a trusted and respected voice on issues of priority to the business
  • Support the delivery of the media relations component of the ET annual engagement plans
  • Manage the media relations reporting requirements as part of the Corporate Affairs Reporting process
  • Anticipate issues facing AGL and develop communications responses in advance
  • Maintain AGL’s top issues tracking and positioning process, including regular updates of the Top Issues document on deadline
  • Support other AGL functions in developing materials for corporate reporting
  • Development and delivery of business improvement initiatives for the Media Relations team
  • Act as lead on media elements of crisis communication planning
  • Management of key vendor accounts
  • Development of speaking content and engagement briefings for relevant events

About You
You will be a proven corporate affairs operator and will have supported engagement with senior leaders, including Executive Team media engagement plans and development of speaking content and engagement briefings. You will have outstanding interpersonal skills and a proven track record for delivering outcomes through proactive engagement, working to strict deadlines and to deliver on commitments.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Significant and proven experience in communications and media relations in a highly regulated ASX listed organisation
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with an ability to manage complex issues within a sometimes challenging media environment with competing stakeholder agendas
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with other corporate affairs disciplines and sub-functions to generate reputation outcomes
  • Solid understanding of media practice, trends and tools, and the real and potential impact of these on stakeholder behaviour, and corporate reputation
  • Proven issues management skills and experience
  • Ability to deliver on commitments and to work to strict deadlines
  • Project management skills
  • Understanding of Australia’s business, political and energy media commentators, journalists and outlets highly advantageous
