Job Description

In the context of a growing portfolio, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager, Medical Affairs to join the HIV cross-functional team for Gilead Sciences, Australia.
About the role:
The Senior Medical Manager will focus on developing and executing the medical strategy in Australia and will be a well-organised and results-oriented person. This role requires close collaboration with national and international colleagues from within Medical Affairs and the extended cross-functional team.
The right candidate will be a knowledgeable and motivated professional with experience working across multiple brands and areas in the pre-launch, launch, and commercialisation settings. There will be a strong focus on collaboration and co-creation, strategic leadership, agile decision making and influencing. The successful candidate will assume a full-time employment as Senior Manager in our Medical Affairs department; and report to the Associate Medical Director, HIV.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Medical Affairs strategy in partnership with the Associate Medical Director and, contribute to building brand strategies as a core brand team member.
  • Develop and execute Medical Affairs activities and scientific projects based on the medical strategy and Plan of Action, in close collaboration with other cross-functional team members.
  • Develop and conduct medical education and communication activities in accordance with identified learning needs, including digital, face-to-face, and print.
  • Develop effective working relationships as the medical expert with cross functional teams.
  • Provide strategic support for local Medical Affairs publication planning.
  • Provide medical leadership to plan and execute Medical Affairs Advisory Programs and provide support as needed to cross-functional HCP advisory boards.
  • Present scientific and clinical data in a variety of different settings to support the safe and effective use of Gilead products
  • Lead the medical and scientific review of local promotional materials.
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with Gilead personnel in European affiliates, Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety, Public and Government Affairs.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Partner with the clinical operations team to provide scientific support to trial sites and ensure sharing of insights
  • Serve as internal scientific expert in the therapy area, healthcare landscape, and data on Gilead and competitor medicines
  • Represent Gilead with the external multidisciplinary scientific and HCP community, through scientific engagement, group presentations, advisory boards, conferences and other activities as required
  • Develop above-country networks to ensure sharing of key insights, ideas and resources
  • Identification of actionable insights from external stakeholders including advisory boards and market research to ensure pre-launch and launch plans addresses the unmet need

Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
  • Evidence of strong medical affairs acumen required
  • Proven experience in leading strategic medical projects, late-phase data generation, and critically reviewing both promotional and non-promotional materials is required
  • Experience or strong knowledge in virology and/or infectious diseases is preferred
  • Established relationships with virology networks desired
  • Functional experience in the pre-launch, launch, and commercialisation settings, across multiple therapeutic areas strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding and experience navigating complex ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the patient journey
  • Leadership in matrix and cross functional team structures with agility, transparency and innovation
  • Demonstrated leadership of developing and delivering on cross functional pre-launch and launch plans including; strategic project management through leading valuable and impactful projects aligned to the needs of the patients and other stakeholders they serve, by engaging internal and external stakeholders and resources
  • Excellent written, verbal, relationship-building, influencing, and negotiation skills with varied audiences and executives
  • Strong analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and interpret complex issues and provide appropriate recommendations to senior management and across functional areas
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and networks at senior levels internal and external to the company
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and independence required
  • Adherence to all regulatory, legal, and business conduct requirements required
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international conferences which will include occasional weekend travel
