THE OPPORTUNITY

Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking a Senior Manager – Mining Operations to join their team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off with a standard 12 hours/day schedule, to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long.
Travel to site and meals and accommodations while on site are coordinated and provided by TSMC. The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake, Happy Valley-Goose Bay in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.
Reporting to the General Manager, Mining Operations and Site Services, the primary focus of the Senior Manager’s role is to be responsible for the efficient operation of the mine in the safest possible manner, and at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements. This is a leadership position at our site with a focus in achieving the production targets through the management of the mine planning services and when the Mining GM is off-site. The incumbent will coordinate with drill and blast contractors, operations personnel, surveyors, and other engineers to ensure safe and efficient production from the various pits in operation. This role is expected to work in both an office environment at site as well as field work in collaboration with multiple departments to achieve goals.
This is a permanent position on a 2 week on/off rotation to and from the Schefferville, QC/Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville Québec.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering combined with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in an open pit mining environment, of which a minimum of 5 years should have been in a leadership role
  • Managerial experience managing interdisciplinary teams of over twenty individuals, preferably in high tonnage operations.
  • Personally committed to the highest safety and environmental standards, and able to take full responsibility for safety at the operation with minimum supervision
  • Written and verbal communication skills in French would be an asset

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and communicate weekly mine plans and schedules

  • Support in preparing annual budget for Mine Operations
  • Maintain up to date pit and waste dump designs
  • Manage various construction projects on site related to mining
  • Monitor costs and ensure projects are being executed on time and within budget
  • Play a major role in the development of planning and reporting systems
  • Undertake regular audits and inspections as required
  • Prepare technical reports relating to mine plans and performance
