Description Organization Description The Center on Colfax has grown to become the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. The Center is a collaborative leader that positively impacts the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people in Denver and Colorado by creating inclusive programs and events, fostering connections, and leveraging the individual and collective strengths of the community. The Center also produces Denver PrideFest, Pride Parade, and the Pride 5K—the largest Pride celebration in the Rocky Mountain Region. Position Description The Senior Content & Communications Manager is a pivotal role responsible for reconnecting Colorado’s LGBTQ+ community to The Center’s mission, programs, and advocacy. This position will develop and implement creative communications strategies that reflect the lived realities of those we serve—bridging generational divides, amplifying awareness of available resources, and reshaping how the community experiences The Center. This role requires both strategic insight and creative execution, with the ability to translate complex issues into accessible, inspiring content across digital and traditional platforms. The Senior Content & Communications Manager reports to the Vice President of Development & Communications and works closely with senior leadership, program staff, and external partners to ensure that The Center’s voice is authentic, inclusive, and representative of the community it serves. Ideal candidates will bring a deep understanding of storytelling as a tool for social impact, a strong sense of cultural awareness, and the creativity to reimagine how an established institution engages a modern LGBTQ+ audience. Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Communications and Content Development Develop and lead a comprehensive communications strategy that strengthens The Center’s visibility and community engagement. Create compelling, accessible content across platforms—including website, social media, newsletters, press releases, video, and print materials. Produce short-form video and social content explaining LGBTQ+ rights, community protections, and key legislative issues in Colorado. Collaborate with program teams to translate service offerings and events into engaging narratives that drive participation and awareness. Manage The Center’s storytelling initiatives, gathering and sharing testimonials from youth, elders, and long-time community members. Work with program team to publicize The Center’s events and support groups to encourage community member retention. Partner with external agencies and freelancers as needed for design, photography, and video production. Community Engagement and Storytelling Host focus groups and listening sessions with local LGBTQ+ networks such as Mile High Queer Club and Queer Umbrella to understand community priorities. Build authentic relationships with content collaborators, influencers, and community storytellers to amplify diverse voices and experiences. Capture and preserve community stories through interviews, podcasts, or video features that celebrate Colorado’s LGBTQ+ legacy. Connect with queer artists and performers to amplify their voices through various multimedia formats. Support cross-promotional efforts for partner events, resources, and initiatives that align with The Center’s mission. Media and Public Relations Serve as The Center’s primary media contact, managing press inquiries and developing relationships with local and regional journalists. Draft press releases, talking points, and op-eds that highlight The Center’s work and amplify the voices of its leadership and community partners. Coordinate communications during key community moments, such as Denver PrideFest, legislative sessions, and advocacy campaigns. Brand and Messaging Strategy Maintain consistent brand identity, tone, and messaging across all communications channels. Reframe The Center’s image as not only a service hub but a vibrant, welcoming community gathering space. Ensure that all communications align with The Center’s values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). Data and Impact Tracking Track engagement metrics, analyze communication performance, and provide regular reports to leadership. Collaborate with the Development team to align storytelling with donor engagement and fundraising initiatives. Identify trends and feedback loops to continually refine messaging and outreach strategies. Requirements Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field required; Master’s preferred. Minimum 8 years of professional experience in journalism, digital communications, community storytelling, or related fields. Proven ability to create multimedia content and manage social media campaigns across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn). Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging messages. Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility, equity, and inclusion. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect authentically across diverse communities and age groups. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable design and video editing tools. Experience managing websites using WordPress or similar CMS preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Familiarity with Colorado’s LGBTQ+ landscape and issues preferred. Passing a criminal history background check required. Working Conditions In-office work model with in-person environment. Frequent communication and coordination with internal staff and community partners. Work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and occasionally loud environment, particularly during events such as Denver PrideFest. Must be available to work Denver PrideFest the fourth weekend of June each year. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodation.
