  • VPS Grade 6: $138,631 - $185,518 plus superannuation.
    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Manager, Procurement Operations to provide a critical role within Finance and Procurement.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and/or experience in public sector procurement is essential, as is demonstrated experience in managing a team of staff.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably encompassing procurement, commerce, law or business administration with a technical understanding of systems/reporting is highly desirable.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role leads the Procurement Operations team which is responsible for delivering key capability uplift, governance and system support for procurement practitioners, buyers and decision makers across the department, working closely with the other teams in the branch to support delivery of the department’s strategic objectives through provision of procurement and property services.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide senior leadership through input into the Procurement and Property Services strategy and manage assigned tasks to deliver against its objectives.
  • Lead and manage a team of procurement professionals which may include:
  • supporting an inclusive workplace and creating and promoting a team environment which is safe, fair, and equitable
  • cultivating and empowering creative and innovative thinking within the team
  • managing staff performance and professional development
  • providing mentorship and advice to facilitate the capability uplift and growth of staff
  • providing day-to-day operational guidance and support.
  • Manage the work program across the team including the management of incoming procurement activity requests and approvals, the prioritising of actions and the use of available team resources to deliver the best outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Legislative, regulation and policy awareness: Be able to identify, interpret and advise on existing procurement related legislation, regulation and policy.
  • Systems expertise: Can identify areas of improvement in system use, manage the use of these systems by others and provide training and support to practitioner and foundational levels.
  • Framework management: Instituting process and framework changes and educating others on the relevance and importance of the existing frameworks.
  • Managing capability uplift and development: Identify skills and knowledge that are required to achieve organisational goals and objectives, and then developing strategies and programs to enhance the capabilities of individuals and teams, leveraging various available mechanisms
