What You'll Do Avalara is seeking a Senior Manager of Deployment Security to lead an engineering team focused on securing our cloud-native infrastructure and computer environments. This role will be responsible for platform-wide initiatives that enforce secure-by-design principles across our CI/CD workflows, and runtime workloads. You will collaborate with product engineering, platform teams, and other security stakeholders to drive automation, implement scalable guardrails, and reduce deployment and infrastructure risks across our public cloud environments. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical knowledge in cloud and application security with a strong track record of collaborative leadership and cross-functional influence. You will report to the VP of Product Security. #LI-Remote What Your Responsibilities Will Be Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of security engineers focused on securing Avalara's cloud infrastructure, platform, and SaaS services. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to staff and Engineering teams. Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and container scanning tooling to support secure CI/CD processes. Own the deployment and operational maturity of Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solutions to continuously monitor configuration risks in public cloud. Drive the implementation of Privileged Access Management (PAM) and identity governance controls in Avalara's cloud platform. Provide expert guidance on threat modelling, vulnerability management, and security best practices across all areas of SDLC to Engineering. Manage the execution of complex, multi-team security projects with clear milestones, metrics, and outcomes. What You'll Need to be Successful B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. 12+ years of total experience, including 5+ years in cloud or infrastructure security, and 3–5 years in a technical leadership role. Expertise in cloud platform security (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI), container security, service mesh and IaC technologies Experience designing and integrating security tooling into CI/CD pipelines and SDLC workflows.
