WHAT YOU BRING:

  • University education in food science or other applicable degree
  • 7+ years related work experience in a food manufacturing environment in a quality leadership role.
  • Solid understanding of HACCP principles and their application in food safety, Global Food Safety Initiative Benchmarked Standards, Quality Management Systems and Canadian Regulations and their application in the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft suite and ability to use software
  • Strong understanding of developing products, through risk assessment, product evaluation, specification review, development and testing results evaluation, manufacturing parameters and commercialization requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills that are risk based and data driven, to identify root cause and future actions
  • Highly organized with a strong focus on detail and accuracy, able to quickly prioritize needs with strong judgement and decision-making skills
  • Able to handle multiple priorities while maintaining focus on business objectives
  • Strong understanding of project management, continuous improvement and change management tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage will all levels and team members
  • Proven leadership skills that motivate teams to work collaboratively with a result oriented common goal that continuously drives business plans and strategic initiatives
  • Travel is required for the role and varies through the year (up to 2-3 days per week) Travel may include local, National and International. Requires use of personal vehicle

Reporting to the Senior Director of Quality and Sustainability, the Senior QA Manager is responsible for leading a team of Sr. QA Specialists who are accountable for product quality compliance, and food safety management to achieve quality and strategic objectives of Loblaw Branded CPG categories. The role works collaboratively with product development, product management teams, vendors and other business partners, to support exciting Loblaw Branded product launches. The position is accountable for talent management, team and direct report’s objectives, strategic planning, and risk management. Along with leading the team the role will also be responsible for supporting product development projects of their own assigned CPG category.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Responsible for providing leadership, coaching and mentoring to the QA Product Management team, providing technical support, through risk assessment, product evaluation, specification review and development and sensory results evaluation to enable the development and successful launch of food products.
  • Oversees workloads as it relates product plans, transformational innovation, and continuous improvement projects. Provides staff supervision to ensure that work is completed accurately, efficiently in accordance with our Critical to Quality processes, complying with relevant policies, procedures, and standards, reprioritizing when necessary to meet objectives
  • Responsible for performance monitoring and KPI reporting as it relates to specification approvals, product testing, post launch review, project closures, warranty period complaints and compliance to standard operating procedures.
  • Supports Senior Leadership Teams to develop strategic plans and continuous improvement projects by analyzing company and departmental processes and identifying opportunities for growth and improvement. While also supporting the broader QA team through defined changes.
  • Responsible for conducting detailed technical product risk assessments throughout the projects to ensure that all risks to the performance of the product from a quality and food safety perspective are considered and recommendations are provided to attain a high level of compliance.
  • In collaboration with Product Developers and vendors develop manufacturing and product specifications, ensuring they are technically sound, accurate and comprehensive to ensure finished products meet the expectations of the end consumer.
  • Work with vendors and other stakeholders to conduct and assess appropriate shelf life, allergen review, travel testing, and other applicable validation studies to ensure risk mitigations are appropriate.
  • Assess production events and conduct sample evaluation to ensure product quality consistency, sensory and adherence to specs to determine vendors capability of a successful launch.
  • Act with pace and efficiency during investigations and ensure timely resolution of customer complaints, trends and non-conformances ensuring that root cause analysis and corrective /preventative actions are implemented. Escalating risks and non-compliance to Senior Leadership teams when necessary
