Job Brief Develops and executes strategies to align an organization's objectives with government policies by building relationships with officials, analyzing legislation, and representing the company's interests to local, state, and federal governments. Job Responsibilities Strategy and policy: Develop and implement comprehensive political, legislative, and regulatory strategies. Analyze and interpret legislation and policy documents to advise leadership on potential impacts. Relationship management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with government officials, policymakers, and their staff at all levels, with coverage areas. Advocacy and representation: Represent the organization at public hearings, meetings, and events to articulate its positions and interests. This can include giving testimony and preparing reports. Communication and reporting: Prepare and deliver a variety of written materials, such as reports, factsheets, and testimony. Ensure consistent and accurate messaging across the organization and with external partners. Coalition building: Collaborate with industry associations, coalitions, and other stakeholders to amplify advocacy efforts. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant lobbying and reporting requirements. Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with internal teams, such as legal, communications, and other departments, to align advocacy efforts and ensure a unified strategy. Job Requirements A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as political science, public policy, public administration, law, or economics is usually required. A master's degree or other advanced degree is often preferred, especially for senior roles. A minimum of 7 years of experience in government relations, policy analysis, public affairs, or a related role is common. Experience in specific areas like state or local government, legislative offices, or within a particular industry Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for drafting policy briefs, communicating with officials, and public messaging The ability to develop and execute government affairs strategies to support business objectives is critical. Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with government officials, community leaders, and other organizations are a must. In-depth knowledge of public policy, the legislative process, and relevant laws is crucial for advising stakeholders and managing risks.
