Description:
Mō te tūranga | About the Role
As a Senior Manager Risk and Compliance you will be working with the business to provide quality advice and direction on risk, compliance and conduct risk management issues and support other members of the risk team. You will provide meaningful input to ensure compliance and conduct risks are captured, risk mitigation strategies and controls are developed, and appropriate reporting mechanisms implemented.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify, manage, and monitor all operational risks and compliance controls, and the linked obligations, within Product, Sustainability and Marketing (PSM)
- Provide proactive risk, compliance, and conduct advice guidance to key stakeholders with the business units.
- Strengthen and leverage relationships across senior management and the PSM and the wider Westpac enterprise teams to embed a strong and impactful proactive risk culture.
- Monitor and report on PSM’s risk management appetite and strategies, including all day to day requirements set by Westpac New Zealand Limited’s (WNZL) Risk Frameworks and Policies.
- Promote a collaborative culture focusing on performing, fixing, and simplifying.

- Demonstrable commercial acumen and risk awareness, practical working knowledge of all things required to successfully perform this role.
- Strong understanding of banks, products and processes and the regulatory environment they operate in.
- 5 years’ work experience in a risk discipline (credit management, compliance, audit, or operational risk), incorporating sound experience in Operational Risk & Compliance (design, application & monitoring).
- Experience in developing risk, compliance, or control architecture to simplify governance activities.
- Ability to act independently within agreed framework.
- Experience managing competing demands within complicated projects/programmes of work.
- Extensive stakeholder management and people leadership experience.
- Experience in dealing with senior management and specialists.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills and ability to communicate with credibility.
- Understanding of New Zealand and Australian Operational Risk and Compliance Risk Regulators and their requirements (eg APRA Standards and RBNZ CoRs)
