DESCRIPTION

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Manager to lead multiple teams responsible for developing and scaling our conversational AI platform, and advanced evaluation frameworks for Large Language Models (LLMs).

Key job responsibilities

• Lead and mentor multiple software development teams, including senior technical leaders, driving technical excellence and operational efficiency
• Define and execute the technical strategy for conversation orchestration systems and LLM evaluation frameworks
• Partner with Product, Research, and other engineering teams to drive the roadmap for next-generation AI capabilities
• Drive architectural decisions that enable scalable, reliable, and efficient AI systems
• Establish metrics and processes for measuring and improving the quality of AI interactions
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with AI research teams and external partners
• Manage resource planning, hiring, and team development across multiple organizations

About the team
The charter of the Amazon Shopping Team is to improve shopping on Amazon using the conversational capabilities of large language models. We are working on an AI-first initiative to further improve the way we do search using large-scale foundation models. These foundation models are also used in downstream applications by various partner teams in Amazon Stores. Our goal is to build large language models (LLMs), which can empower conversational applications and facilitate online shopping.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Track record of leading large-scale distributed systems and AI/ML platforms
• Deep understanding of modern software development practices and architectural patterns
• Experience with LLMs, natural language processing, and conversational AI systems
• Strong technical background in distributed systems, API design, and cloud infrastructure
• Proven ability to hire, mentor, and grow technical talent
• Excellence in cross-functional collaboration and executive communication
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred)

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $198,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
