As we continue to scale our platform globally, we are looking for a strategic, hands-on Senior Tax Manager to lead and manage all aspects of tax related to Uber Freight’s operations. The Freight Head of Tax is a high impact role that offers a unique opportunity to lead the tax function for a high-growth business within the Uber umbrella that also has its own tax reporting requirements, as well as support for the global Uber tax function. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise across multiple tax domains, thrive in fast-paced environments, and enjoy solving complex tax challenges collaboratively. What the Candidate Will Do Own and lead all aspects of Uber Freight’s global tax function. Oversee the quarterly and annual tax provision process in coordination with external service providers and internal finance teams. Manage U.S. federal, state, and international tax compliance, including preparation and review of returns, and coordination with external providers. Manage indirect tax compliance and filings (e.g., sales & use tax) and advise on the taxability of new products or services. Lead tax planning and structuring initiatives to support business expansion, M&A, supply chain optimization, and cross-border operations. Support audit readiness and manage responses to IRS, state and local, and foreign tax authority inquiries. Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and Engineering to ensure tax implications are integrated into business decisions. Drive process improvements in tax operations, documentation, and reporting systems. Manage external service providers and strategize on the long-term balance between external and internal resources Manage transfer pricing and inter-company documentation, including coordination with external providers and internal legal teams. Support general ledger accounting team with provision reconciliations and documentation. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Minimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience, including in-house corporate tax and/or public accounting experience. Preferred Qualifications CPA or equivalent certification, Master’s in Taxation or JD/LLM preferred. Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and lead complex cross-functional initiatives. Proven experience managing compliance and advisory projects. Strong collaborative mindset with a track record of building effective cross-functional relationships. Strong communication skills to be able to present complex tax conclusions to business leaders.
