QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, with proven expertise in low-volume, complex electromechanical manufacturing -ideally within the medical device or scientific equipment sectors
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or managing engineers, with a collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • Proficient in 3D CAD for the design of tooling, fixtures, and production aids
  • Skilled in ERP systems and standard office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing processes including injection moulding, vacuum forming, machining, sheet metal fabrication, PCB assembly, and testing
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 quality systems, lean manufacturing principles, and root cause analysis tools
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety best practices within manufacturing environments
  • Technically confident and hands-on in addressing production challenges and implementing practical solutions

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE COMPANY / ROLE

Having recently secured new backers and with ambitious growth plans Grant Instruments is establishing a Manufacturing Engineering team to drive improvement and expansion of its manufacturing capability.
As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer you will work with the Operations Manager to build a manufacturing engineering function that provides robust technical support to production operations by developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes that ensure consistent product quality, cost-efficiency, and on-time delivery. The Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in resolving day-to-day production issues, supporting product build and assembly, and ensuring that all processes are stable, documented, and continuously improved.
The manufacturing engineering team will play a key role in new product introduction ensuring new products are designed for efficient manufacture and the transition to manufacturing is smooth.
The manufacturing engineering team will also play a pivotal role in driving quality improvements. They will work closely with our external consultant to highlight areas for improvement and insure necessary changes are implemented across the company. In this role you will have senior management and Board visibility ensuring that manufacturing and quality improvement is core to our operational goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Optimise low-volume electromechanical processes to meet quality, cost, and efficiency targets
  • Support daily production and troubleshoot build or quality issues
  • Lead functional testing and process setup for new product introduction (NPI)
  • Maintain process documentation, tools, jigs, fixtures, and ensure equipment is calibrated and working effectively

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and QMS in collaboration with internal and external Quality teams
  • Coordinate internal regulatory efforts (e.g. COSHH, electrical safety)
  • Investigate non-conformances and lead root cause and corrective action processes

Continuous Improvement & Projects

  • Drive process improvements to reduce waste and improve consistency
  • Mentor junior manufacturing engineer and production teams on process changes and quality expectations
  • Support new product launches with manufacturing input during design and ramp-up
