POSITION SUMMARY

WillowWood is a leading manufacturer of advanced prosthetic devices used by amputees across the world. We are seeking a results‑oriented and experienced Senior Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in the design, testing, and manufacturing optimization of high‑performance prosthetic feet. This hands‑on role requires a strong mechanical background, practical experience with prototyping and manufacturing, and the ability to collaborate closely with machinists and programmers to develop and refine parts. The Senior Engineer partners with the Managing Director to oversee manufacturing operations, resolve equipment issues, and drive process improvements across both new and existing products. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mechanical expertise, proactive leadership, and the ability to troubleshoot, adapt, and innovate in a fast‑paced environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
  • 5+ years in product development or manufacturing engineering
  • Proficient in SolidWorks: 2D/3D modeling and complex assemblies
  • Experience with mechanical testing systems
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, GD&T, and materials
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving ability
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in carbon‑fiber composite design and manufacturing
  • Hands‑on experience with lay‑up of composites
  • ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 Quality Management System expertise
  • Experience with additive manufacturing / 3D printing
  • Knowledge of process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Exposure to automation or robotics in manufacturing
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and FEA tools

Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Process Engineering

  • Create and release manufacturing drawings and documentation
  • Evaluate and improve processes for cost, quality, and throughput
  • Work closely with machinists and programmers during part development
  • Troubleshoot equipment and support maintenance for key production assets
  • Lead improvements to tooling, fixtures, and production equipment
  • Support ERP/MRP setup and maintenance (BOMs, routings, SOPs, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and change management systems
  • Assist in overseeing day‑to‑day manufacturing operations in collaboration with leadership

Mechanical Testing & Validation

  • Set up and operate servo‑hydraulic structural and fatigue test systems
  • Conduct mechanical testing to ISO 10328 or internal standards
  • Analyze failures and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot test lab equipment
  • Deliver technical reports and validation summaries

Research & Product Development

  • Use SolidWorks to design, model, and document complex mechanical components
  • As part of a team develop new products and processes
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate new designs using conventional and additive techniques
  • Generate engineering documentation for development and testing
