  • Minimum 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Interested in teamwork, autonomous, and organized.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle which may be used to travel to and from site.
  • Ability to work out of town when needed.
  • Available to work on different shifts and schedules.

The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a Senior Materials Testing & Inspection Technician to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario. This position is based in GEI’s office in Barrie, Ontario with some flexibility for remote work, and includes regular full-time work (40 hours per week).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer for engineered fill, bedding, backfill, granular base and sub-base, asphalt, etc.
  • Sampling of soil, granulars and asphalt for laboratory testing.
  • On-site concrete testing or sampling.
  • Subgrade, foundation (shallow and deep), and reinforcing steel inspections.
  • Geotechnical laboratory testing (i.e. water contents, hydrometers, etc.).
  • Materials laboratory testing (i.e. proctors, granular sieves, concrete, etc.).
  • General CAD design.
  • Maintain testing equipment in a good condition and maintain calibration.
  • Prepare field inspection reports.
  • Communicate field results with contractors and supervisor.
