QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed P.Eng. member of Professional Engineers Ontario (Mechanical Engineering)
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in conceptual design development reviews and engineering change control processes
  • Experience in the substantiation of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems
  • Experience working within 3D CAD systems and with FEA
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible, for designing mechanical systems and components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new projects to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems. You will report to the Robotic Tooling Design Manager and be located at Burlington, Ontario, Canada facility. You will have a hybrid working arrangement of 2 to 3 days on site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team
  • Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and components against applicable codes & standards
  • Prepare concise design reports and technical specifications.
  • Approve and seal design reports, technical documentation and drawings
  • Inspire creativity and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
  • Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
