Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead buildings projects, especially light industrial projects such as water/waste-water treatment facilities. This position can be based out of Burnaby with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Transit and Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must meet the below requirement, at a very minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus six (6) years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste-water treatment plants
- Professional Engineer in British Columbia
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prefer 10 (ten) years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities, such as Water/Waste-water treatment plants
- Working experience with NBC, BCBC, BCPC, SMACNA, ASHRAE codes and standards
- Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, and Power Point
- Experience with Building Energy Modeling and their software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, HOT2000, RETScreen, etc.) would be considered an asset
- Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) would be considered an asset
- Fire protection design experience
- Familiarity with ISO quality management system
- Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communications
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Preparing deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, specifications, and selections related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
- Performing field investigation for incorporating existing conditions into construction documents.
- Performing construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and respond to client questions.
- Working within a project team environment and possessing good presentation and client interface skills.
- Coordinating work with other project disciplines.
- Working independently and making technical mechanical decisions based on building code, industry standards and company standard practice.
- Demonstrating creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.
- Staying abreast of industry standards and approaches, and best practices.
- Ensuring project work is undertaken is accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems. Mentoring junior staff.
- Performing assignments of limited scope and complexity. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
- Assisting more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
- Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
