Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the VP of Product Development and Automation at Apex Industries.
This position will lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for automation hardware that include electromechanical devices, electric and pneumatic actuators, conveyance systems, pumping systems, robotics and other devices.
As part of a custom design team the Senior Mechanical Engineer is required to take a lead role in the development and manufacture of prototypes and proof-of-concept models to validate mechanical designs, assess performance, and take corrective actions to ensure functional requirements are achieved. A strong knowledge of common machining principles and fabrication techniques is required.
Key to this position is the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical components with electrical, software, and control systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 6-10 years’ experience in mechanical design and engineering related to automation and electromechanical hardware design.
- Strong proficiency in CAD design using Solid Works and Solid Works PDM.
- Capable of working independently or as part of a team. Strong leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop initial design concepts based on sketches and verbal direction and provide guidance and direction to other team members.
- Perform engineering calculations to appropriately size actuators, motors, pumps and other electromechanical devices.
- Develop complex 3D models of electromechanical designs using Solid Works.
- Generate detailed drawings and bill of materials.
- Complete design and drawing reviews ensuring tolerances, material selections and finishes are properly specified.
- For large system designs, coordinate with all external subcontractors ensuring subsystem interfaces and elevations are defined and incorporated into top level models.
- Lead hardware design review meetings with customers.
- Develop and execute test plans and procedures to validate mechanical designs and ensure compliance with performance specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement in mechanical design and manufacturing processes, and drive initiatives to implement improvements,
