Description
Description ABOUT THE ROLE As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own the design, development, and validation of mechanical systems and components across the full product lifecycle. You'll integrate mechanical, electrical, and hardware requirements into manufacturable, cost-effective solutions — spanning everything from detailed CAD work and production documentation to hands-on field testing and cross-functional collaboration. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of design and the shop floor — someone equally comfortable in CAD and in the build bay, solving real-world product challenges alongside Development, Production, and external partners. WHAT YOU'LL DO Lead mechanical, hardware, and electrical design on most development projects, driving many design activities directly. Create CAD models, drawings, and documentation for parts, assemblies, mounts, racks, enclosures, adapters, and vehicle integrations. Provide electrical and system integration support — cable drawings, power distribution, grounding, fusing, connectors, and wire harnesses. Integrate and troubleshoot sensors, cameras, lasers, GPS/IMU systems, radios, encoders, and DMIs. Support active production builds, resolving technical questions, fitment issues, rework decisions, and assembly bottlenecks. Create production-friendly instructions, drawings, fixtures, jigs, and controlled documentation. Drive engineering change control: design improvements, drawing revisions, BOM updates, and legacy product support. Support field service and validation, including root cause analysis and design changes to prevent issue recurrence. Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure alignment between engineering design and production requirements. Evaluate supplier changes, replacement components, and alternate parts for form, fit, and function. Travel up to 10% for field testing, customer sites, conferences, and industry test tracks. WHAT YOU BRING Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 10+ years of professional experience in product or manufacturing engineering. Technical Skills Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks is required, Fusion 360 is an asset). Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and BOM management. Intermediate understanding of electronics packaging — enclosure design, thermal dissipation, connector and cable management. Working knowledge of electrical and wiring fundamentals; ability to troubleshoot wiring, signal, power, communication, and PCB-related issues. Experience integrating and troubleshooting sensors, cameras, lasers, computers, GPS/IMU systems, and related components. Hands-on shop-floor aptitude: build instructions, fixtures, jigs, and resolving fitment and assembly issues. Core Competencies Strong attention to detail with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. Comfortable translating field, shop, and customer problems into actionable engineering tasks. KEY TECHNOLOGIES & TOOLS SolidWorks Fusion 360 CAD Modeling BOM Management GPS / IMU PCB Rework Wire Harnesses Sensor Integration Root Cause Analysis Engineering Change Fixtures & Jigs Field Validation Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs independently; heavier loads with assistance or mechanical aid. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday. Ability to climb ladders, steps, or work on or under vehicles and equipment. Manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination for precise fabrication, cutting, and assembly. Visual acuity, color differentiation, and depth perception for reading drawings and inspecting assemblies. Valid driver's license required; must be legally authorized to operate company or customer vehicles. PPE required: safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and appropriate footwear.
