QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience in energy storage, automotive, robotics, or industrial systems.
  • Registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical system design for high-power devices, thermal management, or structural analysis.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, CFX, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and working with external vendors and fabricators.
  • Strong design, problem-solving and hands-on skills; experience in engineering, prototyping, and industrial production environments and field troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with battery or energy storage system design and packaging is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of DFM/DFA, GD&T, and materials selection for mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities
  • Mechanical design of battery cells and packs, including enclosures, interconnects, and structural components.
  • Mechanical design of external enclosures for DC-BESS units, including component placement, fixing, racking, fluid and electrical routing, and IP compliance
  • Delivery of mechanical components and packaged systems that achieve functional requirements, high volume manufacturing readiness, cost targets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Conduct tolerance stack-ups and FEA to validate design integrity and performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical, electrochemical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet functional and integration requirements and DFM.
  • Drive engineering sample assembly and participate in functional testing;
  • Advocate and champion the engineering cycle through design improvement and integration of internal, field, and commercial feedback
  • Select and qualify materials and components based on thermal, structural, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the development of test fixtures, jigs, and assembly processes to support pack and BESS validation and engineering sample assembly.
  • Lead and contribute to design reviews, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Support safety and compliance testing to relevant regulatory standards (e.g., UL, IEC, CE)
