Our growing Pump and Pipeline team in Perth is seeking an outstanding Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a range of exciting projects. This role offers the chance to work within a highly respected specialist consultancy renowned for its leadership in dam engineering across sectors such as mining, tailings, water, and hydropower.

ATTRIBUTES & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B. Eng Mechanical Engineering.
  • NER / CPEng / RPEQ certification or eligibility to apply within 12 months of joining.
  • At least 10 to 15 years of specialised experience in pumping and pipeline system engineering designs.
  • Previous knowledge (or aspirations to develop knowledge) in the specialized field of slurry pipeline design for tailings projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD.
  • Experience developing capital expenditure and operational and maintenance cost estimates for projects.
  • Current unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Proficient in using hydraulic surge analysis software (such as Bentley Hammer) will be of value.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Plan and schedule projects, define the scope of service and prepare proposals for clients.
  • Request topographical survey work and laboratory testing work, where required as input for designs.
  • Evaluate existing topographical terrain and infrastructure information to identify preferred and alternative pipeline routes, as well as to identify installation configuration options.
  • Develop pipeline plan and long section drawings including service crossing details using 3D CAD pipeline modelling software (such as Civil 3D, 12d).
  • Develop mechanical, civil and process engineering design criteria, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) schematics, operating and control philosophies, etc.
  • Perform steady state pipeline hydraulic designs (with hydraulic gradients) using Excel or hydraulic modelling software (such as AFT Fathom and Bentley Hammer).
  • Perform surge analysis for pipeline systems using software such as Bentley Hammer, AFT Impulse, etc.
  • Perform pipeline peripheral designs related to thrust, thermal expansion, valve and flow meter stations and service crossings.
  • Perform pipeline stress analysis and pipe installation calculations from basis equations or using software such as Bentley AutoPIPE.
