QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical device or product design, preferably within medical device R&D environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation from EGBC preferred, or willingness to obtain licensure (alternative title may be provided until licensing is achieved)
  • Extensive experience collaborating with design partners and external vendors
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and relevant add-ins
  • Experience with plastic injection mold tooling design, including insert molding and over-molding techniques
  • Strong project management skills with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in technical, team-oriented environments
  • Sound independent engineering judgment and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a respected leader in medical device manufacturing, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to contribute to the design and development of innovative, high-quality medical devices and equipment. This role supports the commercialization of new products by delivering robust electromechanical assembly designs that meet clinical needs and regulatory standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with external vendors to complete and validate design work, ensuring all deliverables meet product specifications and quality requirements
  • Research and evaluate design options, conducting experiments to verify feasibility and performance
  • Lead high-level design activities while coordinating detailed design efforts with partners
  • Work closely with electrical and software engineering teams to create system-level designs
  • Engage with global and internal manufacturing teams to optimize designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-efficiency
  • Prepare and release product requirements, design specifications, and design descriptions in compliance with applicable medical device regulations and internal standards
  • Maintain thorough engineering documentation in line with corporate policies
  • Review product documentation for accuracy and clarity, including materials intended for customer use
  • Participate in prototyping, testing, design validation, risk assessments, and regulatory submission activities
  • Analyze product non-conformances and recommend design improvements using advanced problem-solving techniques
  • Support intellectual property development initiatives
