The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, hardware integration, and electronic modules, pedestal and power and cooling systems. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The Radar department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our Dual Band Radar (DBR) radar program. This person will be responsible to lead mechanical teams in all phases of our design cycles, from concept development through design, development , build and test. Key requirements for this position include proven problem solving skills and experience in hardware design and integration, engineering analysis, and mechanical drawing creation with military hardware. Individuals will interface and collaborate primarily with other engineering disciplines, as well as operations, systems, quality and program offices.
This role is located in Marlborough, MA (On-site).

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE :

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of prior experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with a minimum of 3 years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
• High proficiency with 3D CAD design tools and/or related product data management tools.
• Proficiency with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience in practice.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with the Dual Band Radar product and architecture
• Experience in leading small development efforts and teams.
• Experience and in-depth knowledge of good engineering drafting standards.
• Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
• Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies.
• Experience in electronics packaging for circuit card assemblies, printed wiring boards, and interconnects as well as routing for cables.
• Experience with metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts), and rapid prototyping solutions. Experience with welding and/or bonding a plus.
• Demonstrated expertise in product assembly, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes and technologies including machined components & products.
• Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention.
• Experience in supporting or leading proposals as well as Basis of Estimates (BOE’s).
• Experience in Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) process.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
• Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support.
• Oversee a small team and serve as the technical execution lead by providing direction.
• Tracking, reporting, and meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product, including Earned Value (EV) management and Estimate at Complete (EAC) inputs
• Preparing proposal inputs on behalf of the product area
• Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines such as Materials Engineering, Quality Engineering, Safety, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Whole Life Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Interconnects, among others.
• Working knowledge of Thermal, Structural, Dynamic, and Reliability analysis to provide inputs and support. Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.
• Perform complex tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
• Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
• Work with suppliers for component part selections and developments to procure solutions that fit within design constraints and requirements.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges to support development and production milestones.
• Support the factory and suppliers with product integration, domestically and internationally.
• Support and participate in design peer reviews, closing action items, resolving issues, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
• Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.
