Job Description Role Summary: The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading mechanical design execution for complex systems and customer solutions, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, compliance, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements. This role owns significant subsystems end-to-end, drives technical decisions, and resolves high-impact technical issues across engineering, manufacturing, deployment, and sustaining operations. The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and standardization efforts, and improving product robustness. Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer Department: Engineering Reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager Role Type: Individual Contributor Job Type: Independent Contractor (Prestación de Servicios Profesionales). This position is a remote role based in Mexico. The engineer will be engaged through Deel under a Contract of Record (COR) model and will not be employed directly by GTI or any U.S. entity. Termination: 2 weeks’ notice. Professional Fees: $41,280 USD - $61,920 USD per year, based on skills and experience. Monthly honorarium: $3440 to $5160 USD • Compensation will be set and paid through Deel • Pay will follow the COR structure. • Any stated salary ranges are gross amounts, exclusive of Deel fees Weekly working hours: TBD, can be between 6:00 am or 7:00 am EST to 10:00 pm EST. Working days/time of the week: Monday to Friday, possible Saturdays based on company needs. Qualifications Worksite: Candidates must reside in Mexico and must already be authorized to work in Mexico. No U.S. visa or work authorization is required SAT: Applicant must have an active status on SAT/Servicio de Administración Tributaria to provide an invoice to the company. Confidentiality: Intellectual Property, Confidentiality & Data Security Candidates will be required to sign confidentiality and IP-related agreements Work will involve access to proprietary designs and information Secure remote work practices are expected Additional Information Core Responsibilities • Own mechanical design of major subsystems (enclosures, structures, thermal/HVAC, ducting, piping, mounting, service access, etc.) from concept through release • Translate system requirements into executable mechanical designs, including interface definition and constraints • Establish and validate design margins, assumptions, and acceptance criteria • Perform and/or oversee analyses (strength, vibration, thermal, fatigue, sealing/ingress, transport/lifting, etc.) appropriate to the risk level • Drive root cause analysis for mechanical failures and implement robust corrective actions • Ensure designs are buildable and repeatable with clear drawings, tolerances, and assembly intent • Reduce part count, complexity, and rework through simplification and modularization • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to resolve producibility constraints early • Coordinate with Electrical and Structural Engineering for mechanical interfaces, penetrations, mounting schemes, and maintainability access • Work closely with Systems Engineering on requirements, interfaces, and verification alignment • Provide technical support to procurement and suppliers (drawing reviews, spec clarifications, manufacturability feedback) • Produce and/or review high-quality drawings, specifications, and BOM inputs; ensure clarity and auditability • Support engineering change management with impact analysis and implementation guidance • Maintain as-built correctness through disciplined revision control and release practices • Lead mechanical design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback • Mentor associate and mid-level engineers on engineering judgment, documentation discipline, and problem solving • Contribute to internal standards, design guides, and reusable modules • Identify systemic gaps and drive continuous improvement initiatives Key Deliverables • End-to-end mechanical subsystem designs and released drawing packages • Engineering analyses and design justification documentation • Supplier technical review inputs and design clarifications • Contributions to standardization (libraries, templates, modular designs) Decision-Making Authority Can independently approve: • Mechanical design decisions within approved architecture and standards • Analysis assumptions, margins, and verification approaches appropriate to the design risk • Disposition recommendations for mechanical nonconformances (repair/rework/accept), within policy Must escalate for approval: • Deviations from approved system architectures or safety-critical standards • Changes that materially impact contract commitments, cost, or schedule • Design decisions requiring cross-discipline governance (e.g., structural load path changes, safety strategy changes) Key Cross-Functional Interactions • Mechanical Engineering Manager – priorities, workload, escalations • Technical Director – architecture and standardization direction • Systems Engineering – requirements, interfaces, verification alignment • Electrical / Structural Engineering – interfaces, penetrations, mounting, service access • NPI / Manufacturing Engineering – producibility and readiness gates • Manufacturing – build issues, fit-up, quality feedback • Supply Chain – manufacturability, lead times, component standardization Success Metrics • Technical quality and robustness of mechanical designs (defect escape rate) • First-pass build and commissioning success for mechanical scope • Reduction in rework and scrap events attributable to mechanical design • On-time delivery of high-quality engineering releases • Adoption of standards and reuse of modular designs
