Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be assigned to the Obscuration and Non-lethal Engineering (ONE) Branch within the Research and Operations (R&O) Directorate at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Chemical Biological Center (CBC). The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work under the supervision of a higher-grade professional employee (e.g., Principal Engineer/Team Lead/Branch Manager).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or related discipline)
  • Previous relevant engineering experience of 5 to 10 years is required, 15 to 20 years is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of PC software packages associated with engineering/systems engineering applications.
  • Work performed will be generally independent and collaborative in nature.
    Citizenship/Clearance requirement: Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security clearance and pass a background check and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the research and technology investigations of smoke/obscurant and non-lethal filled ammunition/munitions/devices.
  • Apply engineering/systems engineering principles, methods and practices to accomplish repetitive-type assignments and contribute to moderately complex projects.
  • Design, test and evaluate smoke/obscurant and non-lethal munitions/devices.
  • Participate with Integrated Product Team (IPT) on artillery and mortar munitions/devices.
  • Collaborate with team on work reviews for accuracy and adequacy of engineering data and conclusions.
  • Make recommendations to improve methods, performance, and quality of product or service.
  • Identify changes to increase efficiency.
  • Support the application of new and improved techniques, methods, processes, materials and equipment in the development of obscurant and smoke munitions.
  • Review and recommend changes to developmental and existing fielded obscuration and non-lethal munitions technical data packages (TDPs) to enhance manufacturing and inspection/acceptance of the munitions.
  • Provide configuration and technical data management through participation in TDP review and certifications, configuration control boards (CCBs) and preparation of Requests for Variance, engineering change proposals, notices of revision and detailed technical review of drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct testing activities. Note: Travel to remote Government or contractor test sites may be required.
  • Troubleshoot production activities. Note: Travel to remote production sites [e.g., Pine Bluff Arsenal (PBA) or a contractor facility] may be required.
  • Support the design change of existing items or design of new items including prototyping activities at DEVCOM Armaments Center (AC) or remote locations.
  • Apply technical expertise to propose design features.
  • Report specified work performed daily.
