Description

CANDIDATES MUST DEMONSTRATE STRONG WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF AUSTRALIAN BUILDING CODES, STANDARDS, AND REGULATIONS, INCLUDING:

  • NCC/BCA (National Construction Code / Building Code of Australia)
  • AS/NZS 1668, 3666, 1682, 1851 and other relevant mechanical and HVAC standards
  • Local authority and statutory body requirements (e.g. Sydney Water, Fire Services NSW)
  • Green Star and NABERS principles (desirable)
  • Lead the mechanical design and coordination of projects, including data centres, commercial offices, retail, and hospitality developments.
  • Ensure designs comply with Australian codes and regulations, client specifications, and best practice in sustainable design.
  • Develop mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, and BMS/controls integration.
  • Conduct site inspections, testing, and reporting on mechanical services installations.
  • Engage with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support the preparation of design documentation, specifications, tender submissions, and technical reports.
  • Mentor and provide technical oversight to graduates and junior engineers.
  • Participate in internal technical reviews and ensure quality assurance processes are met.
Responsibilities

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

You will need to possess the following professional and technical expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (essential)
  • Chartered Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards (desirable)
  • Membership with Engineers Australia (or eligibility)
  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services engineering, preferably in a consultancy setting.
  • Solid understanding of the Australian construction and development landscape, including contractor liaison and site coordination.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry software including AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical calculation tools (e.g. CAMEL, DuctPro, or similar).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage budgets, timelines, and scope.
