POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a senior mechanical estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate is a meticulous and resourceful professional, capable of analyzing costs and evaluating construction projects across our entire mechanical division. You will be responsible for managing the entire estimation process, from researching opportunities to negotiating contracts, including planning and writing bids.
This position is entirely dedicated to estimating costs for all our mechanical projects, primarily in Canada. You will need to be on the lookout for public tenders and develop new private opportunities. Your expertise in estimation, market knowledge, and negotiation skills will be essential to help us win contracts and maintain our leadership position.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanical estimator or in a similar role, ideally in the commercial or industrial sectors.

  • Communication and negotiation skills: Excellent verbal and written communication in both French and English. Negotiation talent is essential.

  • Technical skills: Strong ability to understand and analyze plans and specifications. Excellent command of mathematics.
  • Organizational skills: Great attention to detail, excellent organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Initiative: Good judgment and analytical reasoning, ingenuity, and resourcefulness in finding solutions.
  • Soft skills: Ability to work in a team, good social skills, open-mindedness, and excellent stress management.
  • Education: Hold a college degree (DEC) in a relevant field (building mechanics, construction, building estimation and valuation technology).
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and develop opportunities: Identify interesting public tenders and private projects for the company.

  • Analyze projects: Participate in site visits and information sessions. Gather and examine all important information (plans and specifications, existing site conditions, access and complexity, work schedule, work phasing, etc.) to establish a precise scope of work.

  • Perform cost calculations: Analyze plans, perform quantity take-offs, and create clear and precise estimates, planning the work with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Stay competitive: Know the competition, their trends, and market fluctuations to stay ahead and win contracts.
  • Manage bids: Write detailed bids (lump-sum or unit-price) and negotiate contracts with clients. Present and verify the accuracy of estimates with directors before project closeout.
  • Manage follow-up: Present the execution steps for won projects to project managers and work in close collaboration with company leaders.
  • Maintain relationships: Build and maintain good relationships with suppliers, clients, engineers, and other stakeholders.
