Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical

  • Participate in and/or lead technical teams as required
  • Lead and participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Evaluate new components/parts and process changes to ensure fit for purpose in factory.
  • Evaluate Product Quality data (Annual Failure Rate, Initial Delivery Error, Manufacturing Yield, etc.) to identify opportunities for improved product quality and cost reduction
  • Lead or participate yield improvement activities to improve process and products.
  • Lead cost improvement activities to improve profitability of the product portfolio.
  • Evaluate process data to identify process timing, utilization, and efficiency
  • Help refine, specify, and communicate expectations for quality outcomes through the review and improvement of quality specifications and work instructions
  • This position may require up to 20% international travel

Qualifications and Key Skills for Sustaining Engineer, Mechanical

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Material Sciences Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in a technology driven industry (ideally optical or electro-mechanical products).
  • Experience driving product and process cost reduction activities
  • Experience with CAD or CAM software; Solidworks and Creo preferred
  • Experience in analyzing process & quality data
  • Good communication skills and experience in team-based environment with close collaboration between cross-functional groups (R&D, PLM, Operations).
  • Internal and remote contract manufacturing (CM) support experience
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated track record of delivering results in a dynamic technical environment
  • Proven ability to diagnose mechanical fit or assembly issues on prototype units and also ongoing production units.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Experience in the following types of products/processes/technologies is of particular interest.

  • Fiber Optic Sub Assemblies and test instrumentation - Fiber routing and assembly
  • Fiber optic connectors and alignment
  • Epoxy processes for fiber optic assemblies
  • Generation of Work Instructions for remote factory use.
  • Design and generation of manufacturing fixtures
