Description
AstraZeneca is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, with a broad range of medicines designed to fight disease in important areas of healthcare: cardiovascular, diabetes, respiratory and cancer. At AstraZeneca, we turn ideas into life changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. We believe in the potential of our people and you’ll develop beyond what you thought possible. We make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you to achieve our goals no matter where you start with us. As a Medical Science Liaison you will support the post-approval products and advocate for evidence-based product differentiation and changes in medical practice. Job Accountabilities: Therapeutic & Product Expertise: Act as the in-house thought leader for assigned drugs or therapeutic indications, translating complex clinical data into actionable insights. Develop and maintain deep familiarity with treatment guidelines, pipeline therapies, and competitive landscape. KOL & Stakeholder Engagement: Identify, segment and cultivate relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic experts, and specialty societies to co-create scientific exchange, advisory boards, and investigator-initiated studies and build advocacy among target KOLs. Partner with cross-functional teams (Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial) to align on stakeholder engagement plans that address both scientific and strategic imperatives. Insights Generation & Medical Intelligence: Systematically collect and analyze field insights—clinical practice trends, unmet needs, regulatory developments—and deliver tailored reports and recommendations to inform evidence-generation strategies. Contribute to the design and execution of local observational studies, post-marketing surveillance, or real-world evidence projects. Scientific Education & Training: Define, develop and deliver comprehensive medical training programs on products, disease biology, and emerging science for internal stakeholders (Sales, Marketing) and external healthcare professionals. Design educational materials (slide decks, e-modules, white papers) that adhere to medical and legal standards. Medical Strategy & Policy Implementation: Contribute to the establishment and continuous improvement of Medical Affairs policies, SOPs, and standard field-engagement procedures. Translate global medical strategy into localized tactics, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and ethical guidelines. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership: Serve as a mentor and subject-matter resource for junior MSLs and colleagues, fostering a culture of scientific rigor and professional development. Represent Medical Affairs on project teams — launch preparation, evidence generation, market access—to ensure scientific integrity and patient-centric approaches. Professional Development & Compliance: Maintain continuous professional growth by attending scientific conferences, reviewing peer-reviewed literature, and participating in external training. Ensure all field interactions and data handling comply with industry codes, company policies, and local regulations Requirements: Pharmaceutical experience (required): Substantial experience in the pharmaceutical industry within Medical Affairs or field medical roles; proven track record as an MSL or equivalent, with senior‑level responsibilities. Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field; an advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD) is desirable. Therapeutic/scientific expertise: Strong understanding of assigned therapy area(s) and the ability to interpret and communicate clinical data at depth. Stakeholder engagement: Ability to interact effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including HCPs, external experts, and cross‑functional partners; skilled at navigating complex scientific and strategic discussions. Regulatory understanding: Working knowledge of legislation and codes relevant to pharmaceutical scientific exchange and non‑promotional engagement; consistent adherence to governance requirements. Desirable: Experience delivering advanced scientific training, supporting evidence generation projects (e.g., RWE, IIS), working within SOP‑driven environments, and mentoring or coaching peers.
