Job Purpose and Impact The Senior Merchant will be aligned to Cargill’s Animal Nutrition and Health business within the Risk Management and Sourcing team. In this role, you will be responsible for macro commodity sourcing for the Dairy Feed plants in India. You will handle a moderately complex supplier base and fulfill transactions delivering commodities that meet production requirements and specifications in terms of timing, volume, quantity and cost. Key Accountabilities • In this role, you will be responsible for bulk purchase and cost-effective, and strategic sourcing of various Dairy Feed raw materials (Examples: De Oiled Rice Bran, Rapeseed Meal, DDGs – Corn & Rice, Corn, Broken Rice , etc.)• Conduct market and S&D analysis, build and present trends and analysis • Make decisions using macro commodity procurement and Trading experience for margin enhancement, cost effectiveness and asset utilization.• Formulating long and short-term procurement strategies by identifying gaps in demand and supply of commodities in various regions of India.• Collaborate with various teams such as manufacturing, supply chain, transportation and logistics, quality assurance to ensure efficient execution.• Plan purchases and transportation to maximize profitable use of stock and storage facilities.• Research and analyze various freight opportunities in the marketplace to maximize margin.• Work with customers, suppliers and business counterparts to meet their needs in solving routine problems and addressing complaints and concerns.• Build strong supplier relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.• Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.• Other duties as assigned. Key competencies: • Cluster Strategy: Leads end-to-end sourcing and go-to-market strategies, balancing cost, risk, and supply continuity through S&D analysis and data-driven insights. Ability to analyze and present.• Results Delivery: Delivers strong cost-to-market outcomes; resolves complex supplier and stakeholder issues under pressure.• Commercial Acumen: Drives strategic supplier negotiations and converts market intelligence into actionable pricing decisions.• People & Governance: Builds capable teams, embeds best practices, and ensures compliance and ethical standards.• Complexity Management: Leads domestic price discovery and scales procurement across unorganized supplier ecosystems while managing risk.Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.• Minimum of six –eight years of related work experience.• Other minimum qualifications may apply. Preferred Qualifications • At least 8 years of experience in macro commodity sourcing / trading (De Oiled Rice Bran, , Oil Seeds, Rice Items, Soya, etc. ).• Expertise in commodity negotiation and procurement management in the Dairy Feed sector.• Demonstrated proficiency in navigating market dynamics, trends and competitor analysis. • Analyzing domestic and international markets for making effective buying decisions.• Led negotiations with suppliers, securing favorable contracts and terms to enhance overall procurement efficiency.• Strong analytical abilities coupled with excellent communication skills.Disclaimer Protect yourself against recruitment fraud.
