As the Senior SQL Server DBA and founding member of our CloudOps team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our database future as we migrate from an on-premise environment to AWS RDS (SQL Server). You’ll work closely with our strategic cloud management partner, blending in-house expertise with outsourced support to ensure scalability, performance, and resilience in a high-growth startup environment.

Responsibilities

As the Senior Microsoft SQL Server DBA, you will:

  • Lead our migration from on-prem SQL Server to AWS RDS (SQL Server), including schema design, data transformation, performance tuning, and testing.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for database architecture, backup/restore, HA/DR, security, and compliance in AWS.
  • Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and performance metrics across production and staging environments.
  • Collaborate closely with our cloud management partner to scale bandwidth, orchestrate deployments, and audit configurations.
  • Own all aspects of database lifecycle management including schema changes, upgrades, and capacity planning.
  • Optimize queries and indexes to support scalable real-time transactions, analytics, and reporting.
  • Partner with development, product, and infrastructure leads to support application performance, data integrity, and developer velocity.
  • Design and manage access controls, auditing, and data governance policies.
  • Act as the internal go-to for all things SQL Server—including mentorship, technical guidance, and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to our culture by mentoring, documenting best practices, and leading by example.
