- Salary from $159K pa to $184K pa plus super
The Resources Regulator (part of NSW Resources) are establishing a new Mine Safety Health team and are looking for two Occupational Hygienists to join them.
As Occupational Hygienist you’ll be responsible for assessing mine operator compliance using the principals of anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of workplace hazards for workers employed at NSW mines through:
- Education to the mining industry on key health issues.
- Site assessments to assess if mines are meeting their obligations of the health control plan particularly with airborne contamination.
- Targeted assessments on identified health issues.
- Reactive assessment and management of incidents and complaints.
You’ll also provide technical expertise and advice on these matters to the wider Resources Regulator team in relation to WHS compliance and enforcement at NSW mines.
To be successful you’ll need to have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene.
- Provisional or Full Member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists or be eligible to obtain either level of membership.
- A current Class C driver licence as well as the ability willingness to travel as required.
- The ability to work on weekends and backshifts and respond to incidents out of normal business hours on a rostered basis.
- Sound knowledge of work health and safety related legislation, occupational Hygiene and auditing methodologies (especially as it applies to the NSW mining industry)
- Demonstrated experience in development, coordination and delivery of occupational hygiene assessment and improvement strategies at both an industry and regulatory level.
Responsibilities:
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
- Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory for all roles within NSW Resources.
- The eligibility to be appointed as a Government Official under section 18(2) of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 is a requirement of the role.
- Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory participation in a pre-employment health assessment.
