As a Senior Environmental Permitting & Approvals Consultant (Mine Water / Mining), you will play a critical leadership role within WSP’s Mining Environmental Approvals team. You will lead and deliver permitting and approvals workstreams for Ontario metal mining projects, applying strong professional judgment, regulatory credibility, and a practical approach to water quality and water management. In doing so, you will help strengthen how we consistently deliver high‑quality approvals outcomes for our clients—while mentoring and developing the next generation of technical leaders. Locations: Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto (Hybrid) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOUR IMPACT * Lead environmental permitting and approvals for operating and proposed metal mines in Ontario, with primary accountability for water management and water quality components. * Direct the preparation of permit and approval applications and supporting technical documentation, including environmental management and monitoring plans. * Review project plans and technical studies to identify approvals risks, data gaps, and mitigation or monitoring requirements related to surface water and groundwater. * Advise clients and internal teams on regulatory requirements, interpretation, and strategy to resolve approvals challenges efficiently and defensibly. * Integrate multidisciplinary inputs—including hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, aquatic sciences, and engineering—into cohesive approvals deliverables. * Support project delivery through leadership on scope, schedule, budget, quality, and resourcing for approvals workstreams. * Lead or support engagement with regulators, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities, ensuring technical clarity and responsiveness. * Mentor and develop junior and intermediate staff through coaching, technical review, and on‑the‑job learning. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE SKILLS THAT SET YOU APART * Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, hydrogeology, or a related discipline (post‑graduate degree is an asset). * Typically 8–12+ years of progressive experience in mining or environmental approvals, ideally within a consulting environment serving private‑sector clients. * Strong technical depth in water quality assessment methods, monitoring programs, data interpretation, and reporting for mining projects. * Demonstrated experience with Ontario and Federal regulatory regimes applicable to metal mining approvals. * Proven ability to lead technical workstreams, exercise sound professional judgment, and deliver high‑quality work within budget and schedule. * Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust across multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulators. * Assets include wastewater treatment or industrial processes, inorganic chemistry, contaminant transport and mass balance modelling, assimilation capacity studies, and hydrodynamic modelling (e.g., CORMIX). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHY CHOOSE WSP?
