We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join our operations team. This is a critical role responsible for evaluating and approving reverse mortgage loan files in accordance with HUD, investor, and company guidelines. Reverse mortgage experience is required for this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting required
  • Must have reverse mortgage underwriting experience (HECM and/or jumbo reverse products)
  • Deep knowledge of HUD/FHA guidelines and reverse mortgage program requirements
  • DE certification preferred
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in loan origination systems (e.g., QuantumReverse)
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and efficient under pressure
  • Must be able to work in-office, 5 days a week (this is not a remote position)
Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze credit, income, assets, and collateral documentation to determine loan eligibility
  • Make accurate and timely underwriting decisions for reverse mortgage loans (HECM and proprietary products)
  • Ensure all files meet HUD, FHA, investor, regulatory, and internal guidelines and overlays
  • Issue loan approvals, suspensions, and denials with clearly stated conditions and rationale
  • Collaborate with processors, loan officers, and compliance staff to ensure smooth file flow
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of reverse mortgage underwriting guidelines, product changes, and industry trends
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff as needed
  • Accurately document all underwriting decisions within the loan origination system
  • Meet company benchmarks for loan turnaround times and file quality
