Description

The Senior Engineer II will establish policies, procedures, and standards and is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. Due to their complexity and difficulty, these projects require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Remains knowledgeable of new scientific methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and recommends changes in engineering processes and programs as warranted by such developments.
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered and recommends changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
  • Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects within the Department.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.
  • Participates in the development and/or changes of Rules related to specific marine structures. Advises staff in applying Rules and Regulations within the project groups.
  • Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers’ work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
  • Prepares written responses to clients for review by Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior.
  • Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists, internally and externally.
  • Distributes work within an assigned group of engineers to use an individual’s capability efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned. Keeps Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior informed of manpower needs. Identifies appropriate training programs for developing the potential of subordinates.
  • Assist Principal Engineer and/or immediate superior in developing qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials.
  • Promotes ABS Quality System within an assigned group of engineers.
