Description

The Senior Network Engineer is a critical role responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the organization’s network infrastructure, with a focus on systems and protocols analogous to those found in Navy communications environments. This position requires an individual with a deep understanding of network engineering principles and a proven track record of success in managing complex network systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Navy communications network engineering and be able to immediately contribute to the team with no training or onboarding.

REQUIRED SKILLS/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and management of complex network systems that typically link numerous computing platforms, operating systems, and network topologies.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in broad and diverse background in business analysis, applications/systems engineering, and information operations and architecture.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing, testing, and implementing interface programs, developing security procedures, and managing network performances.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex problems to ensure no disruption of mission-critical applications.
  • Experience with Government architecture frameworks and business/acquisition processes.
  • Experience with DoD Information Assurance policies.
  • Experience in acting in and leading integrated process teams as well as coordinating and communicating customer requirements.
  • Experience with the functions and capability of the Automated Digital Network System (ADNS).
  • Experience in network integration with Surface Afloat ADNS.
  • Experience with Surface Ashore ADNS configurations will be required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems management, mathematics, physics, operations research, statistics, or engineering from an accredited college or university.
    Travel Required: 10% - May require travel to shore/afloat locations (CONUS/OCONUS)

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, Security+, CISSP).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with cloud-based networking solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Detailed familiarity with specific Navy network systems or platforms specifically Automated Digital Network System (ADNS)

The Senior Network Engineer will perform and/or have experience in the following:

  • Design, configure, and implement network infrastructure solutions, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless networks
  • Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal network performance. Conduct proactive network monitoring and performance analysis to identify and resolve potential problems before they impact users.
  • Network Security: Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls, to protect the organization’s data and systems. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments, addressing any identified weaknesses.
  • Navy Communications Expertise: Leverage extensive knowledge of Navy communications protocols, systems, and architectures to ensure seamless integration and interoperability with existing infrastructure.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Prepare regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching technologies, and network security principles.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
  • Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
  • Familiarity with Navy communications systems, protocols, and architectures (e.g., CANES, ADNS, and SATCOM communications).
  • Strong understanding of network security best practices and compliance requirements.
