Job Title: Network Engineer Position Type: Full-Time, Remote Working Hours: U.S. client business hours - EST About the Role Pavago is hiring a Network Engineer for a U.S.-based client specializing in both enterprise networking and Fixed Wireless infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in routing, switching, firewalls, monitoring tools, and hands-on expertise with Point-to-Point (PtP), Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP), Cambium, Peplink, Ubiquiti, and Mikrotik. You will ensure networks—wired and wireless—are stable, optimized, and secure. Responsibilities Network Configuration & Maintenance Configure and manage routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet). Implement VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP). Manage Fixed Wireless links including PtP/PtMP deployments, antenna alignment, and link tuning. Configure wireless platforms such as Peplink, Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik. Perform firmware upgrades, backups, and device patching. Fixed Wireless Engineering Deploy and maintain Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) microwave/wireless links. Conduct RF surveys, line-of-sight checks, and path planning. Troubleshoot interference, throughput issues, signal drops, and instability. Configure and optimize radios, dish antennas, APs, CPEs, and relay links. Work with tools like InControl, cnMaestro, and UISP for monitoring. Monitoring & Troubleshooting Monitor wired/wireless networks using PRTG, SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, InControl, UISP, cnMaestro. Use Wireshark, TCPdump, and RF vendor tools to diagnose issues. Resolve escalated incidents and perform RCA documentation. Investigate routing problems, latency, packet loss, and RF performance issues. Security & Compliance Configure firewall rules, ACLs, VPNs, and IPS/IDS technologies. Secure wireless backhaul segments. Support compliance frameworks such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR. Implement segmentation and Zero Trust network models. Performance & Optimization Conduct bandwidth and capacity planning for wired and wireless environments. Optimize failover, redundancy, and load balancing. Maintain ≥ 99.9% network uptime. Improve RF spectrum usage and mitigate interference. Documentation & Governance Maintain network diagrams, RF path documentation, radio configs, and topology maps. Update change logs under ITIL change management. Document RF surveys, path profiles, and installation reports. Collaboration & Projects Participate in new wireless deployments, upgrades, and migrations. Work with field technicians for physical alignments and on-site troubleshooting. Support cloud network integration (AWS VPC, Azure VNets). Provide recommendations on vendor hardware selection. What Makes You a Great Fit Strong foundation in routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless networking. Hands-on experience with Fixed Wireless (PtP/PtMP). Required Experience & Skills (Minimum) 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience. Experience with Fixed Wireless (Cambium, Peplink, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik). Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF). Experience with network monitoring and RF tools. Cisco CCNA/CCNP or equivalent knowledge. Strong English communication skills. Ideal Experience & Skills Experience with microwave or long-distance wireless links. Cloud networking experience (AWS, Azure). Experience with automation tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform). Background supporting multi-site or ISP networks. What a Typical Day Looks Like Monitor network health (wired and wireless). Troubleshoot routing issues, wireless degradation, interference, or outages. Configure radios, firewalls, VPNs, routing changes. Support technicians during antenna alignment or installs. Update documentation after every change. Recommend improvements to boost performance and reliability. Key Metrics for Success (KPIs) 99.9% uptime for network and wireless infrastructure. MTTR within agreed SLA targets. Healthy RF metrics (RSSI, SNR, throughput). Zero missed critical patches. Clear, updated documentation. Strong client satisfaction and performance feedback.
