JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and supports the network infrastructure for the Minnesota Lottery. The purpose of the Senior Network Engineer position is to design efficient, cost-effective network infrastructures utilizing both established and cutting-edge technologies that meet the long-term IT and business goals of the Minnesota Lottery, while also permitting the Minnesota Lottery to meet its short-term goals and obligations. The role serves as a technical advisor in matters of networking and security across the lottery. The Senior Network Engineer investigates, recommends, and tests out new technologies to ensure the lottery remains compliant with industry best practices, solutions, and security.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with other network specialists, architects, information security, and all departments within the agency to provide an efficient and reliable network to ensure operations are not impacted.
  • Leading new infrastructure projects relating to the network supporting headquarters, regional offices, and to Minnesota Information Technology (MNIT).
  • Designing computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless local area networks (WLANs), internet connections, intranets, and other data communications systems.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, templates and diagrams, working with colleagues to constantly maintain details for managing and supporting the Lottery’s infrastructure.
  • This position is also jointly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the data centers of the Minnesota Lottery. This includes racking and maintenance of Network and Server equipment, and cabling.
  • Acting as a project manager on complex Network and Data Center Infrastructure projects.

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of information technology experience that includes all the following:

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data center networks
  • Experience with network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Experience in developing and implementing network security policies and procedures
  • Expert knowledge of cloud infrastructure and cloud network management such as Microsoft Azure and AWS

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for eighteen months of experience, OR a related Bachelor’s degree substitutes for one year, OR a related Associate’s substitutes for six months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • High level skills in firewall security infrastructure software and physical firewall hardware
  • Excellent program management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Project Management certification or equivalent experience
  • Certifications such as CCAr, CCIE and /or NPDES and /or CCDE, and AWS Certified Advance Networking-Specialty, and Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions and Architect Expert

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires successful completion of the following:
The Minnesota State Lottery will conduct a criminal background check and fingerprint check at the time of job offer for all prospective new employees.
