JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Networking Engineer is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of Exa Networks’ network infrastructure as well as supporting with design. They ensure the integrity, security, and availability of the network, diagnosing and resolving issues while proactively contributing to technical projects and strategic initiatives. This role also includes acting as a second/third-line escalation point for technical queries and supporting the development of junior team members through mentorship and training.

EXPERIENCE

  • Educated to Degree level within computer science (or related topic) and/or equivalent experience
  • CCNA/JNCIAlevel (or relevant experience)
  • CCNP/JNCIP level (or relevant experience)
  • Fortinet Level NSE 4 & 5 (or equivalent Firewall qualification)
  • Good foundational knowledge, experience and aptitude in IT, with a particular interest/focus on networking
  • Experience in working with projects
  • Previous experience within a Networking environment
  • Experience working with SNMP, NTP, DNS, RADIUS and TACACS services
  • Experience working with at least one major router vendor (JunOS, Cisco, Arista)
  • Experience working with more esoteric vendors such as the ones used by Exa Cumulus, RouterOS, Draytek, D-Link, and Unix/Linux
  • 2+ years of experience in bespoke solution design
  • 5+ years experience working in a wider telecoms environment
  • Previous experience supervising team/staff
  • Understanding of web filtering solutions and firewall technologies, including IPS/IDS, DPI/Application control, and SSL decryption
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python)
  • Experience working closely with infrastructure teams and network architects to deliver industry-leading cloud-based products
  • Experience with bespoke solution design
  • Experience working with industry specific technologies
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the delivery of Exa Networks’ Technical Strategy and department KPIs.
  • Proactively monitor the security and integrity of current infrastructure and reporting issues to the manager where required.
  • Proactively maintain and update internal systems used within the Network Engineering Team (as appropriate).
  • Traffic analysis of infrastructure to identify capacity constraints, implementing resolution actions, where required.
  • Design, present, implement, and review bespoke solutions for customer and business needs.
  • Support the delivery of Technical Projects, products and services.
  • Creation and validations of Technical plans and specifications for new services, product features and solutions for projects.
  • Validate and verify technical plans, specifications, and new product features.
  • Conduct research to evaluate and develop new technologies aligned with operational requirements.
  • Provide technical consultation to develop infrastructure, support product delivery, and maintain competitive edge.
  • Monitor and assess network performance, including availability, utilisation, throughput, and latency.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve network-related issues, including high-priority incidents.
  • Act as a primary escalation point for technical queries within the Network Engineering Team and interdepartmentally.
  • Assist in evaluating the technical capability of Network Engineers and report outputs to management.
  • Maintain and update documentation, including network diagrams, operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure adherence to service and operational levels, proactively addressing vulnerabilities and risks.
  • Contribute to automation efforts to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide emergency support cover, including out-of-hours, where required.
  • Travel to customer sites and business locations in the UK as needed.
  • Provide support cover for customers (including out of hours when agreed).
  • Escorting and monitoring of site visitors to designated secure areas.
  • Champion and embody Exa Networks’ behaviours and values in daily practice.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures in line with the Integrated Management System (IMS).
