JOB SUMMARY

This role fulfills the requirements of the Director of Nursing and Personal Care as per the FLTCA. This role is a nursing leader who works collaboratively to support the guiding mission of the organization which is to “provide person centered care that promotes dignity, respect and quality of life”.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively plan, organize and supervise the activities of the Nursing Department.
  • Ensure compliance to Ministry of Long Term Care Acts and Regulations Ministry of Labour legislation, Resident’s Bills of Rights, the Region’s policies and procedures, and the College of Nurses Standards of Practice.
  • Ensure the provision of high quality resident care in collaboration with the care team and the home management team.
  • Foster an environment that is resident centered and multidisciplinary in nature with emphasis on excellent resident care, client satisfaction, quality of life and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure effective and outcome driven required resident care programs through the use of data and evidenced based practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing and related practices and process and implement changes to improve the quality of resident care and improve efficiency in collaboration with the team.
  • Monitor and evaluate risks and ensure actions are in place to reduce and control potential or actual risks to the safety, security of residents and staff.
  • Participate in the development of and effectively monitor and administer the nursing department operational and capital budget.
  • Responsible for procurement in accordance with Regional Purchasing Bylaws, management and inventory control of equipment and material resources within the department.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing of the department through timely recruitment, selection, promotion, transfer, training, orientation or termination of nursing staff according to the Home’s policies and procedures and applicable Collective Agreement.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive team environment through effective communication, relationship building, coaching and mentoring to ensure a high functioning and accountable team, that drives high quality performance and outcomes .

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Work collaboratively with the home’s management team and divisional peers to ensure consistency and service excellence within the home and among all Halton Region Long-Term Care Homes, services and programs.
  • Participate in the Accreditation process and quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide support and serve as a resource to both residents and family members for mitigating, assessing, investigating and resolving resident/family concerns.
  • Ensure the supervision and support of daily operations for all assigned staff.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to ensure clinical competency and engage staff in evidence-based best practice.
  • Promote positive labour relations thorough a team centered approach, thorough knowledge of and fair application of the applicable collective agreements.
