ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Occupational Health Advisor will play a key role in ensuring the effective delivery of a high-quality Occupational Health (OH) service within either the Bakery or Meals sectors and Group Services. Reporting to the Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing, this role will involve managing a team of OH Advisors, leading projects, and implementing health and wellbeing strategies across the business. The Senior Occupational Health advisor will also work closely with a Wellbeing Business Partner to provide appropriate direction from an occupational health perspective and collaborate on various wellbeing and occupational health initiatives.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Occupational Health and Wellbeing Strategy:

  • Develop and implement OH strategies for the business sectors, ensuring alignment with the broader organisational objectives.
  • Develop lead health initiatives that promote attendance and employee wellbeing, and add value to the business.
  • Provide expert advice on occupational health procedures, practices, and programmes.

Functional Leadership:

  • Provide guidance and leadership to OH Advisors and their teams, ensuring a consistent approach across both sectors.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the OH team.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including HR, health professionals, and industry bodies.

OH System Ownership:

  • Oversee the implementation of OH systems, including digital health tools (e.g., OH System, Aviva DigiCare, Wellbeing Toolkit, Health Promotion campaigns, Health and Wellbeing policies).
  • Drive the move from paper-based to digital systems for health reporting and surveillance.
  • Ensure the OH team effectively uses technology to enhance service delivery.

    Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with OH policies, industry best practices, and legal and safety requirements, including GDPR, health surveillance, and medical confidentiality.

  • Monitor the team’s adherence to relevant safety and regulatory standards.

Measurement:

  • Establish KPIs to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the OH service, including health surveillance, absence reduction, and employee wellbeing.
  • Report on progress, risks, and achievements to various stakeholders highlighting the value and return on investment of OH initiatives.
  • Promote a proactive approach to health and wellbeing throughout the Bakery and Meals sectors.

Case Management:

  • To support or undertake case management of a serious nature when referred by an OH & Wellbeing Advisor or manager within their sectors. Always available for support or advice as the ‘expert’ within sector of responsibility.

Policy Management:

  • Lead the review and implementation of OH policies, ensuring they meet industry standards and support operational needs.
  • Work towards achieving and maintaining relevant accreditations (e.g., SEQOHS).

Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve the OH service and drive changes that add value.
  • Encourage the team to adopt best practices and share lessons learned.

Team Management:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of OH Advisors, providing direction and support.
  • Coordinate health surveillance activities and ensure appropriate escalation for cases requiring specialist input.

Functional Development and Networking:

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders within organisation including Health and Safety, Technical, HR, People Services and Operational colleagues.
