Description

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF SENIOR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification recognized by CORU).
  • Current registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in an acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessing and managing complex clinical cases.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical, cognitive, emotional, and social abilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to promote functional independence.
  • Provide specialist advice and intervention for patients with complex needs in areas such as orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory, and oncology.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adapting interventions as necessary.
  • Ensure seamless transition and discharge planning, including referrals to community services where appropriate.
  • Lead and supervise a team of junior occupational therapists, therapy assistants, and students.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship, fostering professional growth within the team.
  • Contribute to the induction and training of new staff members.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participating in case reviews and ward rounds.
  • Lead or contribute to service audits, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care and service efficiency.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for hospital staff on relevant occupational therapy topics.
