JOB TITLE: SENIOR OFFICE ENGINEER - M&O - K12 EDUCATION

Who We Are: DLR Planning is a Women and Minority-owned CM/PM firm working in both the public and private sectors. We specialize on mega projects such as large event venues, infrastructure and education. Position Overview: We are currently seeking four (4) Senior Office Engineers to join our team in support of Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Project Units. The Senior Office Engineer will coordinate various aspects of project delivery and lead the administration of construction projects, including planning, design, budget maintenance, scheduling, labor compliance, and close-out activities. This role involves reviewing architectural and engineering plans, managing project execution, and ensuring compliance with District standards, Division of the State Architect (DSA) guidelines, and building codes.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in project or construction management for commercial and/or public or educational facility construction projects valued at over $15M. A bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management is required, though additional qualifying experience may substitute for education. This is an on-site, long-term job. You must be located in Southern California. NO relocation funds, and NO per diem.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 8 years of full-time, paid professional experience in project or construction management for commercial and/or public or educational facility construction projects valued at $15M+.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Experience working on LEED-certified projects or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) program.
  • Familiarity with the Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction and design process.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management from an accredited institution.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, provided that high school graduation or equivalent educational proficiency is met.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee various aspects of project delivery, including planning, design, budget maintenance, scheduling, and compliance.
  • Manage project planning and engineering activities with project managers, contractors, field staff, and stakeholders.
  • Review, interpret, and evaluate architectural and engineering plans, proposals, and contracts.
  • Provide contracting strategies and execution, ensuring award documentation is properly managed.
  • Review and respond to Requests for Clarifications (RFCs), Change Order Proposals (COPs), and Change Directives (CDs).
  • Prepare cost estimates and assist in negotiating fair and reasonable costs for change orders.
  • Monitor and review applications for payment, ensuring projects are completed within approved timelines.
  • Conduct site walks to verify field conditions, track progress, and generate status reports.
  • Analyze contractor baseline schedules, including critical path and recovery schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with District standards, DSA guidelines, and building code requirements.
  • Maintain project files, logs, and correspondence, including contractor invoices, progress statements, change orders, claims, and timesheets.
  • Organize and lead progress meetings with contractors, project managers, and field staff.
  • Act as a key support staff member in contract data collection and claims resolution.
  • Assist in project close-out activities and acquisition of technical documents, including as-built drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Lead testing efforts to ensure material compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Onsite role in Los Angeles, CA.
