    The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system
    Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage children and young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment

The opportunity

  • 2 full time, ongoing positions, one based at Parkville Youth Justice Precinct and one at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct with travel to other offices within the department.
  • VPS6 role, earning $138,631 - $185,518 per year plus super.
  • Provide specialist advice to the Director of Operations, senior executives and stakeholders on a range of strategic, programmatic and service delivery issues on day-to-day operational matters relating to the dual track model, including education and employment opportunities, pre-release programs, parole planning, and temporary leaves.
  • Strategically plan and manage the delivery of a range of highly specialised operational services in a complex environment.
  • Assist in workforce planning and effective deployment of personnel resources to meet priorities and objectives.
  • Support the Director of Operations in creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on well-defined values, professional excellence, and teamwork to provide an effective and safe Youth Justice custodial system.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and experience within a Correctional, Youth Justice or relevant Human Services environment.
  • In depth knowledge of current legislative requirements pertaining to a custodial environment.
  • Experience leading and managing a team to deliver services in a complex environment.
  • A Certificate IV in Youth Justice, or higher degree in related fields are highly regarded in all Youth Justice Custodial Services direct care roles.

A full driver’s licence is required due to participation in the Duty Director roster and need to work flexibly across both custodial precincts, based on operational requirements.
A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
