UPMC Hamot is looking for a Senior Patient Care Technician to join the Float Pool! Are you dedicated to patient care and looking for an opportunity to provide care in different specializations? If so, we invite you to apply today! This position is full-time with rotating shifts, weekends coverage required. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience. Responsibilities: Suggests and supports departmental changes and quality initiatives. Takes responsibility for assignments and approaches problems constructively. Demonstrates awareness of behavior’s impact on department efficiency. Receives feedback positively and seeks help with planning and prioritization. Identifies learning needs and takes action to improve skills and performance. Participates in self-review, projects, and committee work. Adheres to all patient care and hospital policies and procedures. Complies with safety protocols and documents care accurately. Performs tasks efficiently and completes clerical duties as needed. Transports cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital. May perform Foley/straight catheterization, IV insertion/removal, and dressing changes. Performs core nursing assistant duties: ADLs, blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care. Completed basic arrhythmia class and performs at least four advanced tasks (e.g., EKG, phlebotomy, bladder scan, IV tasks). Assists with patient procedures and therapies; reports changes to RN. Provides patient/family instruction under RN direction; manages restraints per protocol. Reports equipment issues and communicates effectively across departments. Maintains respectful relationships and supports unit activities (call lights, phones, meal trays, transport). Communicates clearly with healthcare team; understands cultural diversity and workplace safety. Demonstrates accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Competent in telemetry application, safety indicators, and intra-hospital transport. May perform advanced skills: arrhythmia monitoring, complex wound care, 12-lead EKGs, NG tube management. May be present in medication storage areas or transport medications between departments (not administer). High school diploma or GED required. Must meet one of the following experience/education criteria: 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet Patient Care Technician requirements. 1 year of experience plus enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with one clinical rotation completed. 1 year of experience plus completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. Annual completion of a professional contribution (to be determined post-hire). Successful completion of Patient Care Technician Senior class. Successful completion of eRecord training. Nursing student with one clinical rotation completed preferred. EMT or Paramedic certification or current enrollment in such a program preferred. Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
