Description The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for leading end-to-end, multi-state payroll operations for approximately 300 employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence. This role serves as a subject-matter expert across payroll processing, compliance, system optimization, audits, and mergers and acquisitions, while enhancing the current payroll team's capabilities and preparing for future growth. Key Responsibilities · Review and oversee weekly multi-state payrolls for approximately 300 employees, including wages, commissions, overtime, benefits, leave, loans, garnishments, taxes, and other earnings and deductions. · Promptly address payroll-related questions or concerns raised by employees or supervisors · Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including FLSA, IRS, wage and hour laws, and state leave requirements. Reconcile retirement and healthcare contributions weekly. · Reconcile payroll journal entries digitally transmitted from Paylocity to SAGE Intacct; support month-end and year-end close activities. · Oversee payroll tax compliance, including quarterly and annual filings, W-2 processing, reconciliation of tax liabilities, and resolution of agency notices in coordination with third-party payroll vendors. · Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reporting related to gross pay, taxes, benefits, and statutory filings. · Maintain accurate payroll records, data integrity, internal controls, documentation, and retention in accordance with regulatory requirements. · Respond to and support internal and external audits by providing documentation and ensuring appropriate system controls and access. · Stay current on changes in payroll tax laws, regulatory requirements, and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance. Requirements · 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience, with complex commission and/or bonus plans for at least 300 people · Deep knowledge of payroll operations, including preparation, reconciliation, compliance, internal controls, and payroll tax requirements. · Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws, state retirement requirements, and statutory reporting. · Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing competing priorities in a high-volume, high-commission environment. · Excellent communication, customer service, and stakeholder management skills. · High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion. · Must be on-site in Sanford, NC Preferred Skills · Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration · CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification · Previous experience with Paylocity
