About the role The Senior Payroll Specialist (India) is responsible for the accurate, compliant, and timely processing of monthly India payroll for approximately 450 employees in both office and manufacturing environments. This role plays a critical operational role within the HR function, ensuring payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, strong internal controls, and a positive employee experience. Reporting within the Payroll function, the Senior Payroll Specialist partners closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Accounting to support payroll execution, audits, reporting, and continuous process improvement. This position requires strong technical payroll expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and hands-on experience operating within Workday. Experience with Multiplier payroll is a plus. Your Responsibilities : Prepare, audit, and process monthly Indian payroll for approximately 450 employees. Review, validate, and reconcile timekeeping data from Workday Time Tracking. Perform pre- and post-payroll audits, including variance analysis and exception review. Process off-cycle payrolls, salary corrections, retroactive adjustments, full & final settlements, and manual payments as required. Maintain payroll controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements. Ensure accurate setup and ongoing maintenance of statutory deductions and contributions, including PF, ESI, Professional Tax, TDS, and applicable state-specific requirements. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory filings and reconciliations, including PF/ESI returns, TDS filings, Form 16, and Form 24Q. Ensure compliance with Indian labor laws, Shops & Establishments Acts, Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Wages Act, and applicable working hour regulation Support payroll audits and prepare required documentation. Maintain payroll SOPs, process documentation, and checklists. Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and urgency. Partner with HR, Benefits, and Finance on payroll data and deadlines. Other job duties as assigned. You bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience is required. 5+ years of hands-on Indian payroll processing experience. Strong experience with Workday payroll and timekeeping. Experience with Multiplier payroll is a plus. Experience supporting payrolls of 400–600 employees across multiple Indian states. Experience in a manufacturing or shift-based workforce environment. Familiarity with payroll accounting, GL posting files, and reconciliations. Knowledge of Indian statutory compliance including PF, ESI, Professional Tax, TDS, and related filings. FPC or CPP certification, or interest in pursuing certification.
