Description
At People First Bank, we’re proudly customer-owned and driven by purpose. With the trust of more than 700,000 customers (and growing), we’re committed to making banking better and building a brighter future for all. We’re looking for a Senior People & Culture Business Partner to join us for a 12-month contract, supporting our Technology & Transformation portfolio during an exciting period of digital change. The opportunity: You’ll partner with senior leaders across our Technology & Transformation portfolio as the bank accelerates its digital transformation. It’s a true business partnering role with both a strategic and operational lens—one moment you’ll be in conversations about the future direction of the bank and the people priorities to get us there; the next you’ll be helping a leader navigate day-to-day questions like parental leave entitlements. You’ll work with a diverse stakeholder group—some highly experienced people leaders and others who are outstanding technical experts but new to leadership. You’ll bring a pragmatic, down-to-earth approach, build capability through coaching, and lead key people initiatives including end-to-end restructures. You’ll also be comfortable picking up some employee relations case management from time to time as overflow support to our ER team. Flexibility is built in, with hybrid working and part-time options considered (minimum 0.8 FTE). This role can be based anywhere in Australia. If you’re based in Adelaide, Toowoomba or Brisbane, you’ll be required to attend the office 1 day per week. What you’ll be doing: * Partner with Tech & Transformation leaders to align people plans to delivery and strategy * Lead restructures and workforce transitions end-to-end * Coach leaders to build capability, confidence and consistency * Deliver core cycles (performance, remuneration and talent) * Provide pragmatic ER advice; manage cases as needed (overflow support) * Use data and insights to identify trends, risks and priorities * Help uplift P&C practices and ways of working What you’ll bring: * At least 3+ years’ experience as a People & Culture / HR Business Partner, with a genuine passion for business partnering * Proven experience leading restructures end-to-end (including being able to run them solo) * Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation and practical, risk-aware ER approaches * A down-to-earth, commercially minded style—confident with senior stakeholders and focused on outcomes * Comfortable shifting between strategic work and hands-on operational support, including some case management when required * Resilient and adaptable—able to work with leaders at different capability levels and bring clarity in a changing environment * A continuous improvement mindset and comfort working in a P&C function that’s still on the journey (not yet best practice) * A relevant degree; experience in financial services, technology or other regulated environments is beneficial Why join us? At People First Bank, you’ll be part of a genuinely values-led organisation undergoing meaningful transformation. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact, work with senior leaders, and influence the way we support, engage and grow our people. We offer: * Hybrid working and flexible arrangements * A competitive salary package * A supportive, down-to-earth culture where people matter * The chance to shape the future of mutual banking in Australia   Ready to apply? If you love true business partnering—moving between strategic conversations and hands-on support—this could be the role for you. We’d love to hear from experienced, practical P&C professionals who are excited to support Technology & Transformation through meaningful change. We are committed to diversity and inclusion and support candidate requests for adjustments to enable everyone to equitably participate in our selection process.
Responsibilities
The Senior People & Culture Business Partner will partner with Technology & Transformation leaders to align people strategies with business goals and lead end-to-end restructures.
