Within the spirit of “Making People’s Dreams Come True”, this position is responsible for defining the high-end of community photojournalism and being self-directed as a newsroom leader with the ability to cover complex subject matters in a sophisticated manner. These duties are accomplished while delivering Raving Fans customer service to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities: * Document newsworthy events in the community through compelling photography captured in an authentic, ethical manner. * Work closely across newsroom teams to develop the “top stories” of the day. * Produce images that allow readers to gain a better understanding and concept of the story. * Write accompanying captions that are accurate and descriptive. * Demonstrate a mastery of the technical aspects of photography, such as composition, lighting and editing. * Work both on a team and independently for long hours at a time to meet established deadlines. * Use image-editing software, such as Photoshop, to prepare images for publication. * Compile the photo report in the absence of the photo managers. * Assist in the development of less experienced photographers. * Backfill for the Managing Editor as needed. * Foster a culture of collaboration and contribute to a healthy team dynamic. * All other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements: * Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two (2) year college or technical school and two (2) years of related experience at a daily newspaper. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Must have departmental software computer knowledge (based on department employed with a minimum of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel). * This position is subjected to The Villages Vehicle Safety Program and its policies as it requires the use of personal vehicles for company business. Please refer to the Vehicle Safety Program for the policies and procedures that this position is required to follow. * A Valid Driver’s License with a record acceptable to company standards is required for this position.
