POSITION SUMMARY:

The post holder should be competent in both ward based respiratory management and High Dependency Unit/Critical Care management. The post holder will work with the Respiratory Clinical Lead and Physiotherapy Management with regards to operational aspects of the role. Management of acute wards, attendance at Respiratory OPD clinics and clinical supervision of staff grades will be the core components of this role. Cross cover may be required across the wider Respiratory service based on service needs.
Responsibilities:

EDUCATION & TRAINING

The Senior Physiotherapist will:

  • Participate in mandatory training programmes
  • Take responsibility for, and keep up to date with Physiotherapy practice by participating in continuing professional development such as reflective practice, in service, self-directed learning, research, clinical audit etc.
  • Be responsible for the induction and clinical supervision of staff in the designated area(s)
  • Co-ordinate and deliver clinical placements in partnership with universities and clinical educators
  • Manage, participate and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists. Take part in teaching / training / supervision / evaluation of staff / students and attend practice educator courses as relevant to role and needs
  • Provide supervision and education for staff grade physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants as required.
  • Engage in personal development planning and performance review for self and others as required
  • Lead, promote and ensure clinical effectiveness of the physiotherapy service through performance management, education, audit and research

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Senior Physiotherapist will report to Physiotherapy Manager in Charge III for physiotherapy clinical governance, attendance and service performance management.
