POSITION OVERVIEW

We are expanding our Pipe Stress Analysis team to support Power generation projects across the US and have a strong backlog of work for the next 10 years. In this role you could be involved with power projects in any of the following areas: Large scale Electric Utility projects, Gas generation, Coal, Fossil Fuel (simple and combined cycle plants), Carbon plants and carbon capture facilities. As a Pipe Stress Engineer with us, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of piping systems for Power Generation projects, by performing detailed pipe stress analysis, for various equipment like steam turbines, compressors, pumps, tanks, exchangers, heaters, columns and so on, and resolve potential issues related to stress, vibration, and other factors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years’ power plant design experience (or related plant design experience) with an emphasis in pipe stress analysis/design and support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Prefer proficiency with AutoPipe pipe stress analysis software or combination of AutoPipe and CAESAR or advanced stress analysis skills in CAESAR II.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of design codes and standards applicable for Pipe Support design work.
Responsibilities
  • Perform piping system thermal flexibility analyses (static and dynamic) for critical piping systems in accordance with ASME piping codes, standards, and industry practices, utilizing AutoPipe.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and the construction team to optimize pipe routing and support schemes.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Identify different stress packages through review of P&IDs / Line Designation tables.

Perform analysis for sustained, thermal and multiple operating cases, occasional (viz winds, seismic, relief, hammer etc.)

  • Perform pipe stress analysis for different equipment like Steam turbine, Compressors, Centrifugal Pumps, tanks, exchangers, heaters, columns, etc.
  • Provide pipe loading information to other disciplines as required.
  • Resolve high pipe loads on equipment nozzles & high secondary stresses in piping.
  • Selection of spring hangers, snubbers, struts for pipe supports.
  • Preparation and interpretation/review of stress calculations of relatively complex nature.
  • Locate and identify pipe supports on isometrics and review piping and sign off on piping isometrics.
  • Prepare complete documentation of the stress analysis and support design.
  • Participates in reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data from suppliers.
